De-Cluttering the Kitchen Pantry
|September 6, 2013||Filled under cleaning, motivation, organization, shaklee|
Hi all! I am showing my messy pantry today! Lord, help me!
So, here is what my pantry looked like when I started:
I really love that I have the pull-out drawers in the pantry, but things get stuffed into the back anyways. :) And they don’t slide as easily as they used to. My lowest drawer is my potato/onion, serving platter, salad bowl and large pitcher drawer.
There were some ROTTEN potatoes down there – boy did those stink! Here is the drawer after:
The drawer second to the bottom is our breakfast and oils drawer. It might not look THAT bad, but there was food that had spilled out, lots of crumbs, and several boxes with nothing in them!
Next drawer is snacks and dessert-y items. Before:
This is the drawer I was able to de-clutter the most! After:
Lastly, the top drawer is pasta, canned goods, and vinegars. Before:
Yep, I have a lot of vinegars. They are all different types, so I only had a couple of duplicates I was able to get rid of.
Before I put any items back into the pantry, I cleaned each drawer with my favorite all-natural cleaning product ever!
So, here is the whole pantry, after purging and organizing!
SO much better!
I have another cabinet in the kitchen, that I sort of see as an extension to the pantry, because it contains all of my baking “stuff” and spices. It had been the bane of my existence for months now. Spices literally would fall out every time I opened the door.
Here is the whole darn thing before:
I had this extra basket lying around, so decided to corral all of the tea into that, which was the perfect size.
I also ended up switching around the purpose of the two top shelves. Originally my measuring cups were on the top shelf, and the baking/cake decorating items were on the middle shelf, but I realized that didn’t make sense, because I use the measuring cups a lot more than the baking stuff.
So, in the end, my top shelf became my baking shelf, with the sprinkles and muffin tin liners all put into their own basket and all of the candles in another container.
Here is the baking shelf after:
The middle shelf is now mostly devoted to the measuring cups, tea, and soup bouillon. Here it is, after organizing:
I love that the measuring cups will be more accessible, without standing on my tiptoes. Not sure why it took my 11 years to figure that one out. :)
And, last but not least, the spice and sauce shelf. I do already have a tiered shelf thing, although you can’t tell by looking at the “before” picture.
If you don’t have one of these, or a lazy susan, you should invest in one or the other. Very handy to be able to see all of the spices! Or a dedicated spice drawer. That would be sweet. But I don’t have one of those, lol!
Here is the spice shelf, after a LOT of purging. I had spices in there that were “best before 2009″! Oops! Yes, I have a lot of spices still. Spices and vinegars…I have a problem.
So, here is the entire cabinet….AFTER!
Seriously, it feels so much better! Stay tuned for more, as I work through other areas of my house!
