Weekend “Up North”
|March 16, 2013||Filled under About me|
The hubby and I recently got away for a few days to one of our favorite places on earth, Camp du Nord in Ely, MN. It is an amazing family camp that I have been going to just about every summer for the last 30+ years. I haven’t been up there in the winter for probably 20 years and it was Mike’s first time up there in the “off season”.
I wrote a post about what a week during the summer is like HERE.
It’s about a 4 1/2 hour drive up to Ely, and they had just gotten some snow the day before, so the drive was very scenic and the trees looked so pretty!
When we arrived in Ely, the park still had snow sculptures there, left from a winter festival.
Here we are!
Our car was clean before we left, lol!
Our home for a few days…
Isn’t the cabin cute? Rustic, yet cozy. Actually, it’s not even that rustic…given that there is running water and a bathroom. :)
One day we headed out onto the lake for a walk. Normally when we see this view, we are in a canoe! The camp has snowshoes, cross country skis and a great sledding hill available during the winter.
This is the original wood burning sauna and there is a hole in the ice so that even in the winter you can enjoy it!
We really enjoyed the quiet (oh my, was it quiet!), relaxing mealtimes and watching movies on the laptop. There is no Wifi, so other than getting sketchy cell service, it forced me to take a few days off from social media and work.
It was great to spend time, just the two of us, and recharge a bit!
If you are in the Midwest and looking for a great place to take your family, I would highly recommend checking into Camp du Nord. Our boys talk about it all year long and we absolutely LOVE it!
Do you have a “go to” place you like to head to for long weekends or getaways?
