Wisconsin Dells Weekend

This past weekend, we drove to Wisconsin Dells to watch my oldest son compete in the Wisconsin Dells Gymnastics Vacation Classic. I haven’t been to the Dells since I was a kid, and it was the first time for both of our boys. We always enjoy travel meets because it gives us a chance to get out of town and stay someplace new!
We stayed at the Chula Vista, which I would definitely recommend. The indoor waterpark was great, and there were several restaurant options on site.
Here are the boys during the drive. It’s only about a 3 1/2 hour drive for us, so not bad at all.
We left on Saturday afternoon and arrived shortly before our team dinner. I always feel sorry for the poor server that gets stuck with 25+ people, several of which are pre-teen/teen boys! :)
We tried Buffalo Phil’s, which was neat because a little train actually brings your beverages and some of your food. The kids got a kick out of that.
Here is hubby, showing off his lovely hat.
The next day was competition day, but not until later in the afternoon, so the kids got some waterpark time in.
It was SO busy there, with this being the host hotel for the meet, that there was hardly any place to sit! We did find a couple of seats near the spot where the gigantic bucket of water would tip over after 5 minutes or so, drenching everything in its path. We loved seeing the unsuspecting people get soaked….it was humorous. :)
Here are my boys waiting patiently to get soaked!
Boom!
There were many slides, a roller coaster, whirlpool, water walk, kiddie area and a lazy river. Here is Kaden enjoying the river.
After some lunch and a rest (me!), we headed over to the meet! Devin was ready to go, albeit a bit tired.
The competition was held in a big dome, with 3 gyms set-up next to each other. It was both a girls and a boys meet so there was a lot going on at once.
I love watching Devin compete! He, along with his teammates, did a great job. Not their best meet (I think there was a bit of fatigue), but Devin placed 5th in Vault, 12th All-Around and the Team placed as well!
More medals for his wall!
The meet didn’t end until after 8, so we had already decided to stay another night. I’m glad we did, because there was horrible freezing rain both at home as well as between home and the Dells, so people were scrambling to decide whether to stay or brave the roads.
We were even able to get in more time at the waterpark the next morning before we hit the road. Even hubby and I got in on the fun! I must admit I felt old though, because it didn’t take much to make me dizzy!
This was our only travel meet of the year, so I think we made the most out of it!
Do you travel for your kids’ sports? Do you like it?

Wow so nice traveling with family, isnt it. Love the water parks so nice there. And congrats to your son whose winning medals.
Thank you! It was a nice time for sure. Have a great weekend! :)
