Iowa Boys Invite

My oldest son has been involved in gymnastics since he was about 3. He joined the competitive team at his gym 3 years ago and this past weekend we traveled to Iowa to participate in an Invitational at the University of Iowa.
Most of the meets we go to are fairly local (within an hour or so), so it was fun to pack up and go!
If you’ve never been to a gymnastics meet, they last several hours…but I love every minute!
The boys do the 6 Olympic events: Floor Exercise, Still Rings, Pommel Horse, High Bar, Vault and Parallel Bars.
It’s quite a time commitment, like with many sports, to be in gymnastics. My son practices 9 hours a week (3 hours, 3 days a week). He has tried other sports, but keeps coming back to gymnastics.
Anyway, back to the meet. First, the National Anthem!
Sometimes the boys march-in, but since this was a larger meet, they just saluted at their first event.
Devin is pretty serious and focused during competition. Here he is watching a teammate finish his high bar routine while he chalks up!
He ended up placing 5th on floor, so he was thrilled! His other scores weren’t so hot this time around, but he took it in stride and the team did awesome overall!
Here’s a little glimpse at the medal-winning performance! :)
What sports do your kids do? Do they do more than one? Do you have to travel for their sports? How do you keep from getting too overwhelmed with the busy schedules?
